From the Manufacturer Two Zero kits – one incredible combo. Flown by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service from 1940-1945, the Mitsubishi A6M was usually referred to by the Allies as the “Zero.” The lightweight, carrier-based Zero was given the official Allied codename of “Zeke.” The "A" in “A6M” meant it was a carrier-based fighter. "6" was for the sixth model built for the Imperial Japanese Navy. "M" was for Mitsubishi, and the last number referred to the variant.
